A border in the Victorian style, the bottom half of a pair.

Jewelry has been part of the human psyche since the beginning. Cynics suggest that it’s  entirely unnecessary, and maybe it is, but people have been interested in decorating themselves and others with pretty rocks for tens of thousands of years. It may be unnecessary in some modern sense of that word but it clearly fills a human need. Modern jewelry is an extension of a long and storied tradition.

It’s not just diamonds. It’s not even just rocks, although that too is a seriously long part of the tradition.
